Making THE UNCONSCIOUS CONSCIOUS

Welcome to my practice

I’m a psychotherapist, educator, and clinical supervisor with over 25 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

I’m certified in EMDR and trained in Internal Family Systems.

  • I’ve had the opportunity to develop programs and facilitate workshops for individuals struggling with addiction and have been instrumental in creating supportive mental health programs for marginalized populations, including the Los Angeles dual diagnosis homeless community and foster youth transitioning out of the foster care system. My work with trauma, grief, and recovery has been highly valued by organizations such as Hollygrove, Community Access Network, and the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health.

I’ve served as an Adjunct Professor in the Psychology departments at Mount Saint Mary’s University and the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC). I have a proven track record of supervising and training therapists toward licensure. My MSW was earned from the University of Hawaii.

I’ve also written a soon-to-be-published book about adverse religious experiences and high-control religions.

Therapeutic Approach

In therapy, we focus on two primary objectives: making the unconscious conscious and releasing the ties that bind us: relationship patterns, limiting beliefs, unwanted behaviors, and points of resistance.

As a Certified EMDR therapist I specialize in utilizing an Attachment-focused approach to address a wide range of issues, including trauma, depression, relationship struggles, attachment wounds, anxiety disorders, and creative blocks. Additionally, I employ Internal Family Systems Therapy, a highly effective therapeutic method that promotes harmonious integration among our inner 'parts' that may be in conflict.

The duration of therapy can vary according to the objectives. Practical strategies are developed collaboratively, and your goals and progress are consistently re-evaluated. My style is interactive, curious, creative, direct, and insightful.

I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Therapy in association with Journey Clinical. This groundbreaking treatment is suitable for clients with certain types of depression or those looking to deepen transpersonal work in therapy.

Services

  • I work with individuals and couples struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationships, and difficult life transitions. I am committed to working collaboratively to assist you in achieving your goals.

  • Attachment-Based EMDR integrates Attachment Theory and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). The approach examines the effects of early attachment relationships, encompassing both undesired events and the absence of desired ones. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation, (something you can see, hear or feel crossing the body in a rhythmic pattern) to facilitate the brain's natural ability to process distressing memories as well as promote overall emotional and relational well-being.

Bessel Van der Kolk, the author of The Body Keeps the Score, has claimed that EMDR is a crucial therapy for helping people ” digest” the imprint of trauma.

I’m certified by EMDRIA and in the process of becoming an EMDR Consultant/Trainer. My passion for EMDR motivated me to expand my knowledge to include the Basic and Advanced Trainings of Laurel Parnell as well as Mark Brayne, a leader in the European EMDR Community.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based therapy that offers the view that each of us is truly greater than the sum of our parts. It addresses the sub-personalities, or families, within each person’s internal system. These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame, as well as the parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s “Core Self”, a concept that describes the confident, compassionate, whole person that is at the core of every individual.

IFS was developed by psychologist Richard Schwartz, who observed patterns in how patients in family therapy described their inner lives. He began to conceive of the mind as a family, and the parts as family members interacting with one another.

The tagline of the Pixar film Inside Out, “Meet the little voices inside your head,” is just how Internal Family Systems (IFS) describes the parts: like little people inside of you. IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance, self-compassion, and harmony in the individual by changing the dynamics that create discord.

  • Promoting the growth and development of future clinicians is a special privilege. Together we create an alchemy that moves you toward your clinical goals. Supervisees often say that I treat them like an equal, and that it feels like we are learning together in a way that feels non-hierarchical and incredibly empowering.

  • I’m approved by EMDRIA to provide consultation for trainees earning their hours toward EMDR certification as well as those practitioners seeking support and oversight to practice this breakthrough technique.

  • I work in collaboration with Journey Clinical to provide Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.

In this modality we work with sublingual ketamine in a virtual session, providing a catalyzing experience in the safety and comfort of your own home with the support of a professional. Ketamine is helpful for those dealing with depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and other issues. To learn more visit Journey Clinical.

  • While research explodes around the therapeutic use of psychedelics and sacred plant medicines, many clients still struggle to find a therapist who is knowledgeable and non-pathologizing. I bring experience, knowledge, and training to my work with individuals involved in plant medicine and shamanic communities and have supported many clients in both preparing for medicine work and integrating their experiences afterwards to make the maximum impact on their lives.

  • Adverse Religious Experiences (ARE) are any experience of a religious belief, practice, or structure that undermines an individual's sense of safety or autonomy and/or negatively impacts their physical, social, emotional, relational, sexual, or psychological well-being. These experiences have the potential of resulting in religious trauma.

While there are no set parameters for constituting an ARE, they are typically categorized into emotional, verbal, physical, and sexual mistreatment. Some typical abuses include: Community Violence, Bullying, Threats, Intimidation, Public Outing, Stigmatizing, Forced Confessions, Shunning / Excommunication, Brainwashing / Forced Indoctrination, Social / Familial Isolation, Information Denial, Scapegoating / Othering, Identity Disruption, Emotional Manipulation, Phobia Induction, Dress / Behavioral Control, Segregation, and Love Bombing / Trauma Bonding

Healing from the trauma of a high control religion is about integrating safety into the nervous system, understanding imposed belief systems, deconstructing external conditioning, and moving towards empowered resolution.

In my forthcoming memoir, I explore the challenges of navigating religious abuse within a purity culture. Drawing from personal and professional experience, I have developed skills to address diverse spiritual wounds.

Clients that excel with me are motivated to undertake an immersive internal exploration

“Trauma is not what happens to you.
Trauma is what happens inside you,
as a result of what happens to you.”
